Dietary fiber
Dietary fiber has been called the “fifth nutrient” because of its useful functions in the body, such as regulating the bowels. Since dietary fiber is slow to digest and requires chewing well, it has the effect of suppressing overeating and excessive appetite, which helps prevent obesity. It also helps to lower cholesterol levels, thus helping to prevent arteriosclerosis and other lifestyle-related diseases.

The measured amount of dietary fiber in our picked dried-daikon radish was 3.5g/100g(*1). Since fresh daikon contains 1.4g/100g(*2), pickled dried-daikon radish contains about 2.5 times more dietary fiber than fresh daikon.

Chewing is effective in preventing tooth decay and gum disease, obesity due to a feeling of fullness, and improving memory and concentration. Pickled dried-daikon radish with a firm texture is recommended to enhance these effects.

There are research reports that advocate “30 chews per mouthful” to produce saliva. This has the effect of preventing tooth decay and gum disease, preventing overeating by increasing the sense of fullness, reducing the burden on the gastrointestinal tract by saliva secretion, and improving memory, thinking, and concentration.
